AstraZeneca has introduced the first program aimed at reducing the risk of heart disease among high-risk patients, according to a statement issued by the company’s chief executive officer. “Our results show that the use of atorvastatin in the early stages of the treatment is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular events, and also an increased risk of death, compared to non-users of the drug,” the study authors write in their report.
The study has found that the statin atorvastatin is well-tolerated by those with moderate to severe LDL-C (high-risk patients) and has a low risk of serious cardiovascular events compared to those with a normal level of LDL-C.
The study, conducted by AstraZeneca, concluded that atorvastatin is as effective as simvastatin in reducing the risk of heart attacks and strokes in patients with moderate to severe LDL-C. The researchers found that atorvastatin is well-tolerated by patients with mild to moderate dyslipidemia and the study found that it was well-tolerated by patients with moderate to severe high-risk LDL-C.
AstraZeneca, which is involved in the AstraZeneca program, is also working on a new cholesterol-lowering drug called Crestor, which was originally designed for people with high levels of LDL.
