CVS Health and Walgreens are considering buying the popular cholesterol-lowering drug Crestor for as little as $5 per month for a high-quality deal, according to a press release from the company.
The company said it would consider buying Crestor for as little as $5 a month for a deal that would cost $35 a month plus a $10 monthly membership.
“CVS Health and Walgreens’s goal is to provide patients with access to affordable, high-quality Crestor,” the release said.
The Crestor deal would include the prescription drug Crestor and the insurance coverage for Crestor.
Crestor is a generic version of Lipitor, a popular cholesterol medication.
The Crestor deal would include a $20 monthly membership for customers, the release said.

Statins have been used to prevent heart attacks and strokes for many years.
A study of more than 7,800 patients showed that statins were associated with a modest increased risk of cardiovascular events.
“This study is the largest in the cardiovascular safety database of any treatment for any statin,” Dr. Steven Nissen, the director of clinical pharmacology at the Cleveland Clinic, said in the press release.
ASCET is a type of high blood cholesterol called “hyperlipidemia,” and the increased risk is usually linked to high levels of a certain type of fat in the blood, the release said.
Statins are not as safe as cholesterol-lowering drugs.
“They’re not as effective as the drugs they are used to,” Nissen said.
A recent study of more than 10,000 adults found that the statin drug Crestor was more likely to cause a statin-associated adverse event ( ASCET), or heart attack, than other statins, the release said.
Statins are generally safe and effective, and they can help with low LDL cholesterol and other risk factors.
ASCET can happen due to an overactive thyroid and high levels of fat in the blood.
But there are some potential side effects, and one study found that taking statins in children was associated with an increased risk of low blood pressure.
